Sister Rita Jean DuBrey, CSJ, Authors Chapter in Healing Touch Book

Sister Rita Jean DuBrey, CSJ, RN, MSN, CASAC, CHTI, Director of the Center for Complementary Therapies at St. Mary’s Hospital at Amsterdam, recently authored a chapter, “Healing Touch as a Spiritual Practice” in the twentieth anniversary edition of Healing Touch Guidebook: Practicing the Art and Science of Human Caring with the editor Dorothea Hover-Kramer.

Sister Rita Jean states in the first chapter, “Almost inevitably, the practice of Healing Touch brings those giving its care to a place of heightened spiritual awareness. The moments of shared connection with clients are sacred experiences.”

Throughout her writings, Sister Rita Jean elaborates on the many ways in which Healing Touch can become a bridge between body, mind and spirit. Through her personal experiences both as a practitioner and as an instructor, she defines Healing Touch as a practice of hope, a practice of letting go and as a journey of self care. At the end of the chapter, we are reminded to pause: “This pause can become a sacred moment for renewing gratitude for the many blessings received and the gift of energy therapy practices such as Healing Touch.”

This is not the first time that Sister Rita Jean DuBrey has been published. In December 2006, the results of her one year study on “The Role of Healing Touch in the Treatment of Persons in Recovery from Alcoholism” were published in Counselor Magazine.

Sister Rita Jean is an experienced nurse, Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor and a Healing Touch Certified Instructor. She has been instrumental in introducing Healing Touch to the Amsterdam, NY Community since 1995. She became the director of the Center for Complementary Therapies in 2000.
