Main NewsSisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Albany Province, Statement on Selection of Pope FrancisMarch 14, 2013 As the first Jesuit pontiff, Pope Francis shares the Ignatian-Salesian spirituality of the Sisters of St. Joseph who were co-founded in the mid-seventeenth-century France by Jesuit Jean Pierre Médaille. In taking the name, Francis, our new pope chooses as his patron the saint of Assisi, known for his deep spirit of humility, his love for the poor, his stewardship of God’s creation, his lifestyle of simplicity and his desire to rebuild the church in a time of turmoil. We hope for such leadership.
We join in prayer that the Holy Spirit will bless Pope Francis with all the graces needed to lead the Church with the integrity, compassion, openness and fidelity and to bring a renewed sense of hope to the people of God.
