Up in heaven, Sister Maureen Denn's mother and father couldn't be prouder, she said.

Denn — who for nearly 30 years lent spiritual comfort, companionship and a sympathetic ear to hospital patients as chaplain at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare — is this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade grand marshal.

"If there's a way to connect and know what's going on, my mother and father are up there so proud, and going around telling everybody, 'Did you hear? Our daughter is the grand marshal for the Utica Irish parade,'" she said.

The announcement was made Sunday during the annual Halfway to the Great American Irish Festival Hooley at Hart's Hill Inn.
