Sister Mary Anne Nelson, CSJ, Supports Students Inside and Outside the Classroom
by WNYT Staff
ALBANY -- When it comes to rocking out, Mary Anne can rock out with the best of them.
"She appreciates every genre, you name it," said Jake Dietrich of Live Sound Inc. "I played in a punk hardcore band and she said it's one of her favorite bands she's heard."
Mary Anne Nelson isn't Jake's mom. She's his former teacher and goes above and beyond to support her students, even attending a concert in Troy where Jake worked for production company Live Sound Inc.
Mary Anne heads the music industry program at The College of Saint Rose and is actually Sister Mary Anne Nelson. She's the last of the teaching faculty of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. They founded the college in 1920.
Initially, the music program didn't have many choices so the teachers sought out experts.
"People from record labels, production companies. They would tell us what they're looking for in terms of new hires," Mary Anne said.
