Sister Debbie Timmis, CSJ, named new principal of Mater Christi School in Albany


Congratulations, Sister Debbie Timmis, CSJ, new principal of Mater Christi School in Albany, effective July 1, 2019!

On May 3, 2019, Giovanni Virgiglio, Jr., Superintendent of Schools for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, issued the following announcement:

“We are very pleased to announce that a long-time colleague in Diocesan schools, Sister Debbie Timmis, CSJ, has been named the new principal at Mater Christi School in Albany, effective July 1, 2019.

“Father James Ebert, pastor of Mater Christi parish, members of the search committee, and I are thrilled that the search yielded such an internal candidate, and we look forward to Sister Debbie’s continued success as a Catholic educator and administrator.

“Sister Debbie has been an educator in the Diocese of Albany for nineteen years. She has served in various roles from Educational Technology Teacher in several schools to Director of Educational Technology for the Catholic School Office.

“This past school year, Sister Debbie served as Assistant Principal at Mater Christi School. During her time at the school, she has taken on many roles and responsibilities in preparation for this transition. She values the relationships she has formed with students, faculty, staff, and parents and looks forward to being part of the larger Mater Christi Community.

“As a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Sister sees herself as blessed to be part of such a vibrant community. Sister Debbie has a Masters of Arts from Teachers College at Columbia University. Currently, Sister is pursuing certification in the Educational Leadership Programs at The College of Saint Rose and Fordham University.

“As you may know, Mater Christi’s current principal, Terry Ewell, is retiring at the end of the current school year. We are grateful to Terry for her years of dedicated service, and wish her a happy retirement. We want to thank her for mentoring Sister Debbie this past year.”
